Journaling to reflect on the year

Each month I host a free 'Journaling for well-being' workshop. It's 30 minutes of support and inspiration for your journaling practice. We focus on two techniques:

1 - Wild writing, a free-style journaling method.

2 - Utilising guided prompts around a particular theme.

The theme for the session was to reflect on the year gone by.

Looking back so that the path looking forward is event clearer.

Reflection is an important part of our growth and development. Yet often, it gets left to one side in place of more 'productive' activities. A process of exploring and examining ourselves, reflection helps gain insight and see how to move forward.

Journaling is one way of reflection which is highly powerful as it allows you to probe your reflections and develop them more thoughtfully.

The end of the year is a great time to look back, to see everything you've accomplished and learnt as a way of moving forward into the new year with intention.

Below are the prompts we reflected on this morning in the last journaling workshop of 2022.

  • Write down key words or phrases that summarise 2022 for you…

  • What are you most proud of accomplishing this year?

  • What moments stand out for you and why?

  • What challenges have you faced?

  • When are the times you’ve felt most authentic and true?

  • What situations have brought you the most joy?

  • What have you learnt about yourself this year?

  • What has surprised you most?

  • Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give yourself this time last year?

  • What do you want to leave firmly in 2022?

  • What are you hoping to cultivate in 2023?

  • Describe the type of person you want to be next year….

If you find these prompts useful, why not come along to a workshop next year - the next one is on 16th January and all the details can be found here.
