Heed your own advice - Look after yourself!

Updated: Jun 26, 2020

We are sharing lots of advice about the importance of self-care during this period of uncertainty but are we taking our own advice?

It is so important to give yourself a break - whatever form that may take. Do something that brings you joy, spend time alone in peace, or get some exercise. Even just take some deep, slow breaths.

I’ve witnessed leadership teams, CEOs and MDs doing everything within their power to protect their people, working under strain to adapt their businesses and plead with their teams to look after themselves when they are out of work - to spend time with their families and switch off. Who is taking care of the leaders? Are you doing the same and getting the downtime you need to restore and go at it again next week?

I’ve seen parents talking to their children about the importance of being kind to others, and comforting them when they are scared. Parents, who have become teachers overnight to educate, and nourish their little ones. Who is nourishing the parents? Are you investing in your own self-care?

To all the incredible key workers who are giving tirelessly. May you allow yourself a moment, a break, an ounce of space to breathe.

People are stretched for time and resources. But yet we continue to give to those close to us and to our communities. As we lead, and take on responsibilities in our own families, jobs and communities, we must remember to take our own advice. Look after yourself.
