Journaling prompts: improving self-worth


Each month I host a free 'Journaling for well-being' workshop. It's 30 minutes of support and inspiration for your journaling practice. We focus on two techniques:


1 - Wild writing, a free-style journaling method.

2 - Utilising guided prompts around a particular theme.


The theme for the session was 'improving self-worth'.


How much do you value yourself? Aside from external achievements (certifications, qualifications, awards) or validation/praise from others. Underneath everything, how do you rate your self-worth?


Self-worth is the foundation of your self-esteem and self-confidence, shaping your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Developing a healthy sense of self empowers you to face challenges with courage, embrace imperfections, and appreciate who you are as a person.

Increasingly, we live in a world of comparison and self-analysis. Elevating your self-worth isn't about being ‘perfect’ (whatever that means anyway). It's about embracing who you are and recognising your value as an individual, a whole person.


Take time to reflect on these journaling prompts below to sense check and raise your self worth:


  1. Reflect on a time when you felt your self-worth was challenged. How did you handle the situation, and what did you learn from it?

  2. Write down three of your most significant strengths and how they have positively impacted your life.

  3. Describe a moment when you demonstrated self-compassion and kindness towards yourself. How did this act of self-compassion influence your outlook on a challenging situation?

  4. Describe a recent achievement, no matter how small. How did this accomplishment make you feel, and how can you use it as motivation for an existing challenge?

  5. Consider the relationships in your life who you spend the most time with. Are there any that drain your self-worth or self-esteem? How can you establish healthier boundaries to protect your sense of worth?

  6. What are some self-care practices that help you feel more deserving of love and care?

  7. Who is a role model or someone you admire? What qualities do they possess that you find inspiring? How can you incorporate some of those traits into your own life to enhance your self-worth?
