Each month I host a free 'Journaling for well-being' workshop. It's 30 minutes of support and inspiration for your journaling practice. We focus on two techniques:
1 - Wild writing, a free-style journaling method.
2 - Utilising guided prompts around a particular theme.
The theme for the session was 'finding your joy'.
A little joy goes a long way. When did you last feel joyful? What did that feel like?
As adults or ‘grown ups’, it's easy to let joy slip into the background, left to the kids, or something you’re waiting for the ‘right time’ to prioritise. But joy can be found not just in the grand moments; it often lives quietly in the small, ordinary ones - with the sun on your face, a spontaneous laugh, or a memory that lights you up on the inside.
Joy, like happiness, can be intentional or spontaneous. But the more you look for it, the more you see. It’s about rekindling the moments, memories, and practices that awaken a sense of lightness and gratitude.
Try these journaling prompts from today’s workshop to reconnect with your version of joy:
What does joy mean to you? How does it feel?
When was the last time you felt joyful?
What does joy look like in your life today?
What gets in the way of your joy?
If you gave yourself permission to feel pure joy, what would you do?
What is a small drop of joy you could sprinkle on your day today?
Taking the time to nourish yourself with joy is like a gift to yourself. Do it for you, and only you.
