Journaling prompts: making space

Each month I host a free 'Journaling for well-being' workshop. It's 30 minutes of support and inspiration for your journaling practice. We focus on two techniques:

1 - Wild writing, a free-style journaling method.

2 - Utilising guided prompts around a particular theme.

The theme for the session was 'making space'.

What fuels you, and what drains you?

Often we focus on what we're capable of doing; how much we can achieve, how much we can hold, how much we can give. But capability isn't the same as capacity.

You might be capable of saying yes to another commitment, supporting another person, or pushing through another busy week... but do you have the capacity to do it without depleting yourself?

Awareness is where change begins. By noticing what energises us and what quietly drains us, we can make choices that honour our wellbeing rather than simply our productivity.

Try these prompts to explore your energy this month, or share them with someone you think may benefit:

  • When do I feel most energised, calm or fully myself?

  • What has been draining my energy recently?

  • Where am I relying on capability instead of honouring my capacity?

  • If my energy were a bank account, what are my biggest deposits and withdrawals?

  • What is one small boundary or intentional choice I can make this week that will protect my energy and support my wellbeing?

Quote to reflect on:

"Just because you're capable of carrying it doesn't mean it's yours to carry. Protect your capacity as carefully as you value your capability."

As you move through this month, I invite you to check in with yourself regularly. What fills your cup? What empties it? Small shifts, made consistently, create meaningful change.

Next month, my free journaling workshop takes place on 3rd August and is focused on the theme of guarding your peace. You can register here.

Alternatively, you can download my free journaling toolkit to get your started.
