Journaling prompts: clarity and calm

Each month I host a free 'Journaling for well-being' workshop. It's 30 minutes of support and inspiration for your journaling practice. We focus on two techniques:

1 - Wild writing, a free-style journaling method.

2 - Utilising guided prompts around a particular theme.

The theme for the session was 'clarity and calm'.

When life feels overwhelming, our instinct can be to do more, think harder and try to work everything out.

But sometimes, we need to do the opposite. We need to pause.

Journaling gives us somewhere to put our thoughts, explore our feelings and untangle what's going on inside us. It helps us step back and look at things with a little more perspective.

We might discover what is really worrying us, what matters most, what we need more of, or what we can stop carrying.

Sometimes the clarity we need is simply recognising what needs our attention today, what can wait, and what we need to give ourselves permission to let go of.

If you'd like to continue exploring this theme in your journal, here are five prompts to help you find a little more calm and clarity.

What's taking up space in my mind right now?

What is within my control, and what isn't?

What actually needs my attention right now?

What do I need more of, and what do I need less of?

What is one small thing I can do to create a little more calm or clarity?

Forget the big overhaul. What's one small, kind and realistic step you could take today or this week to make things feel a little lighter?

Calm begins with giving yourself permission to pause. And clarity begins with listening to what comes up when you do.

As always, be gentle with yourself. Your journal is a space for you; there are no perfect words, no expectations and no need to get it right.

Next month, my free journaling workshop takes place on Monday 7th December and is focused on the theme of the reflective pause. You can register here.

Alternatively, you can download my free journaling toolkit to get your started.
