What stands in the way of you being your true self?

Updated: Jun 26, 2020

What holds you back from being true to yourself? Do you find yourself in situations saying or doing things that make you uncomfortable? Do you wish you had more confidence to take your whole self out into the world? Why not make 2020 the year you remove the blockers you put in your own way?

We form our beliefs and values when we’re very young. We pick them up from influential people around us and from our own unique experiences. These views and beliefs influence our actions and decisions, the way we act and behave. They provide a lens through which we view the world and view ourselves. You’ve possibly come across the term ‘limiting beliefs’. These are the labels we give ourselves that hold us back from being who we really are. “I’m not good enough” is a classic one. A belief that you’re not good enough means you’re always striving harder, pushing forward and progressing further. The flip side means you doubt your abilities, feel insecure, act in ways that you feel you should in order to present yourself as good enough, rather than in ways that feel authentic to you.

Think about the labels you give yourself, the thoughts that hold you back from acting from the part of yourself that is true. It can take time to explore and challenge all of our limiting beliefs. Start with one. What does that label give you? What does it take from you? If you want to explore this further, I would love to hear from you.
